The SeptaTorq was developed for a Finnish company who needed a solution for the installation of grab handles on lifeboats made by roto moulding. The project brief was to design inserts that would not pull out or turn under extreme loads, providing the maximum possible pull-out resistance to ensure the safety of passengers.

Initially, our standard Supertorq and oversize Supertorq inserts were tested, but they were unable to meet the stringent requirements of the customer. To provide the ultimate torque and resistance, we moved away from hexagonal inserts and designed a brand-new insert with a multi-lobed profile that maximised performance while maintaining excellent moulding performance – we called it SeptaTorq.

SeptaTorq derives its name from its seven legs and has become popular over the years, with sales of 60,000 pieces during the life of the lifeboat contract and a further 300,000 since the first inception, overtaking sales of the regular inserts where the application demanded it. The unique design of the SeptaTorq insert has revolutionised the installation of grab handles on lifeboats, meeting the exacting standards of the Finnish company and exceeding their expectations.
