Development of the Breather: Enabling Tank Ventilation while Preventing Spillage
The Issue
A major UK Rotational Moulder specialising in agricultural equipment encountered a design challenge during the transportation and usage of their portable fuel tanks used for carrying oil, diesel and AdBlue.
They needed air to be able to enter the tank to ensure a good flow of liquid during discharge whilst preventing the loss of any fluid during transportation often over rugged or uneven ground. It was not possible for them to source an off the shelf product that met their needs.
The Solution
The objective was clear: develop a specialised component that could facilitate air intake without allowing fluid to escape.
Our design engineers analysed the fluid and pressure dynamics involved in transportation and after crafting prototypes and conducting rigorous tests designed the Breather to meet the customers’ requirements.
After the successful production of the initial batch of Breathers, we continued to collaborate closely with them to refine the design and functionality based on practical feedback and evolving project needs.
The Breather is able to fit into a standard Anchor Insert moulded into the top of the tank, successfully preventing spillage during transport and allows air into the tank to maintain pressure enabling a rapid discharge.
To date, we have supplied over 1,000 Breathers for various projects with each iteration incorporating enhancements from real-world data and customer feedback.
The success story of the Breather underscores the importance of tailored solutions in industrial design and manufacturing, showcasing how strategic collaborations can lead to transformative outcomes in product performance and reliability.
